Travel Essentials: Skin Prep

Before a long haul flight, prepping not always consists of what to wear, what inside my carry-on or printing out my boarding pass. Prepping for me also consists of skin care essentials, the night before my flight. As we all know, the air in the airplane cabin is not always that great on our skin. It tends to dry it out and in return our skin overcompensates with oils, and that is when breakouts happen. I have found a way to keep my skin hydrated not only on the flight itself, but also pre-departure. These are my three must haves for skin care prep!

1. The Body Shop Vitamin C Microdermabrasion: This exfoliator is perfect to get rid of dull skin. We all want radiant, healthy looking skin when we go on holiday, right? It is a bit intense, so I would not recommend for sensitive skin, but for all other skin types it is a must have! Before applying any serums or masks I want my face feeling as clean and healthy as possible and this scrub does the trick!

2. A’kin Pure Radiance Rosehip Oil: This natural oil is amazing! I use it daily before applying my night moisturizer and it leaves the skin feeling glowy and soft in the morning. Although it is an oil, it DOES NOT leave the skin either looking or feeling oily! I highly recommend this for all skin types. Miranda Kerr swears by it, and she looks amazing! I like to use it before my  overnight mask on the day before a flight, for extra hydration.

3. Origins Drink Up Intensive Mask: I love this clear mask! It is perfect to put on at night and go to sleep. It does not stain your sheets or clothes which is definitely a plus for an overnight mask. This mask is perfect to use also during long haul flights. I used it on my flights to and from Thailand, which included several 7 hour flights and I had no need to put moisturizer on during the flight and my skin felt very hydrated without the oiliness. In combination with the Rosehip Oil, your skin will definitely feel hydrated and well behaved!

“God knows I love a good striped shirt, and when I came home and raided my sister’s closet, I found this gorgeous striped bodysuit and I knew I had to wear it! It provides both comfort and versatility. For this week’s OOTD I decided to pair the bodysuit with overalls. It is still pretty hot in this lovely island of Puerto Rico, therefore, sunny days out in shorts are very much acceptable. I wore some mid-heel shoes and  let me tell you they are soooo comfy! I also decided to clash prints and added a skinny leopard print belt to clash the snakeskin on my shoes and the stripes. The pop of color is provided by the clutch and accessories were kept minimal!”

Trends: Mixing Prints

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
Recently I have been more open to new fashion adventures and for me, mixing prints is definitely one of them. I always wondered how it was possible to achieve such perfect ensembles with that much difference in patterns and prints. Like everything, mixing prints has its little tricks and secrets. After many hours researching and finding my favorite ones, I am here to share them with you and make your closet filled with endless fashionable possibilities! The first thing to know about mixing prints is that in order to find harmony between the pieces it is important to link them with a common color palette or undertones. Also, a good idea is to combine different textures. If you are unsure of where to start: black and white is always a safe bet. It is important to make a single piece, your key item. Whatever you decide to pair it up with should be a subtler print, in order to achieve harmony and not let the prints become “too much”. It is also very important to accessorise accordingly by adding a solid color item (shoes, handbag, necklace) that will tie your outfit together. My favorite patterns to style are stripes with animal print or florals. As I learn more and feel more confident, I will be diving into the deep end of mixed prints! The best thing about mixing prints is that it can be done during all seasons, from fall through summer! Here are some of my favorite ways of mixing prints! Enjoy, and remember to be bold and dare to be yourself! Fashion is not about faithfully following a certain trend, it is about seeing a trend that you like, and making it your very own! screen-shot-2014-07-28-at-11-11-07-pm I found these useful styling tips from  MadebyGirl and will be incorporating to my wardrobe!

The Petite Diaries: Boyfriend Jeans

Today on The Petite Diaries, we will be talking about styling boyfriend jeans specifically for petite women. Boyfriend Jeans can look a little daunting at first  but with the right amount of fabric and styling, we too can rock the boyfriend jeans. I used to be afraid of the trend, although I spent countless hours pinning looks on Pinterest trying to find the right style for me . After much research and venturing out to different retailers, I found my pair! Although I need to alter it for sizing ( It’s a very loose fitting size 1 ), I believe the lenght, color, and distressing is perfect. I have used it and styled it with cardigans and form fitting tops as well as paired it up with heels and wedges. I will be showing you soon how I have styled them! In the meantime I wanted to give you some inspiration on the best ways to style boyfriend jeans for petite gals!

This post can be found in Spanish over at EgoModa!

petite-1-

When it comes to style, a slim cut boyfriend jean is the best bet for a petite frame. Another tip that works and I have used, buy some jeans one size up and/or  a pair of your size that are slim but loose fitting and those could pass as boyfriend jeans as well!

Untitled-2

When it comes to cuffing your jeans, make sure they are cuffed as narrowly as possible. Add feminine statements like heels, necklaces, a bold bag or bright lips to keep it girly!

Photo Diary: Bacardi Triangle

Last weekend I had the amazing opportunity to attend the exclusive Bacardi Triangle in El Conquistador Resort in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Yes, this event took place right in my backyard. It was 3 nights filled with some of the funnest and most amazing moments I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing. I can’t go without saying that this past Halloween was probably the best one to date. The whole vibe of the place was awesome, everyone seemed like they were enjoying themselves and having an amazing time! Saturday during the day we went to a pool party at the hotel and had a blast, dancing to music and playing in the pool with a giant volleyball. At  night I had the most fun at Palomino, a private island part of El Conquistador, where Ellie Goulding, Kendrick Lamar and Calvin Harris played. I had never seen them live and they did NOT dissappoint! Since pictures are much better than words, I will leave you with some of this weekend!

This was my first time staying at Las Casitas Village, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, which is right next to El Conquistador, where all the fun and parties where at. Let me just say,  the views were stunning and the staff was amazing! They made our little getaway very special! I can’t wait to come back!

Enjoy the pictures!

“I am in love with these shoes! They are so different and make such a statement in an outfit! The tassels alongside the bright green color makes the entire outfit. I chose the monochromatic look in all black to accompany them and make the colors really pop. I kept the accessories simple (clutch, earrings, bracelets) in order to focus all the attention on the shoes. However, I found this statement necklace from Baublebar and I KNEW it was the perfect match. The difference in texture with the pants and the blouse also contribute to the outfit without it looking too dull. I can’t wait to keep styling and incorporating these shoes into other outfit choices!”

Beauty Review: Lancôme

This post is in Spanish and originally appears in EgoModa, for which I write for.

Weekend Travel Essentials

plan_ahead_for_a_relaxing_weekend_getaway_to_find_the_best_deals-1

Weekend Travel is one of my favorite things to do. Leave Friday come back Sunday… ahhhhh spend the weekend away from real life. As I have had many, and I mean many Weekend Getaways, I have perfected the art of packing those weekend essentials without over packing and maintaining my style. This last weekend I had the opportunity to go to the Bacardi Triangle at El Conquistador in Fajardo! What an amazing weekend! Here’s what I packed for that little getaway! Stay tuned for pictures of this epic weekend featuring Ellie Goulding, Kendrick Lamar, Calvin Harris, an amazing villa, bikinis, friends and lots of Bacardi!

1. Weekend Bag: First things first, a weekend bag is the most important part of your trip! A nice sturdy bag will allow you to pack your outfits and toiletries and will fit in any overhead bin if you are flying or the back of your car if it’s a road trip. For this particular trip I decided to go with a small carry-on as I was taking my Halloween costume and clothes for the parties.

2. Toiletries: In terms of toiletries you do not need to take our full size items on a weekend trip. Its unnecessary and a pain to carry. Stock up on your favourite items that come in travel size and take them with you! If you are not sure if a particular item comes in a travel size, ask for a sample at the store! Those usually last a couple of days that is just what you need for your trip!

3. Makeup: Unless you are going to an important event, makeup should be kept down to the basics: foundation, powder, concealer, ONE basic eyeshadow palette, blush, mascara, eyeliner, and lipstick. It sounds like a lot, but to makeup junkies like myself, these are the basics. If I know I’m not going to be going anywhere too fancy or that requires too much makeup, I will bring my BB cream and some powder. I have travel sizes for my primer and mascara so those come with me as well!

4. Outfits: PLAN AHEAD! I used to over pack, A LOT! Now I plan my outfits ahead of time and take only what’s necessary. I usually take a pair of jeans and a skirt and change the blouses and shirts and I try to use the same pair of shoes for all my outfits. If I know I will be going out then I add a pair of heels. Trust me, when you plan ahead you will feel so proud when you see all of your wonderful clothes and shoes fit in the weekend bag, with space to spare!

5.Comfy clothes: Whether you are arriving my plane, train or car, nothing sets the bad mood as uncomfortable clothes do. Remember, you will probably be sitting for a good two hours, and you want comfortable items to move around or at least give your body space to breathe while you are sitting down. Take an outfit to go to your destination, and one to come back. A pair of leggings, a t-shirt and my trusty Chuck Taylors always does the trick!

Now what are you waiting for? Go pack that bag and head out for the best weekend ever! Don’t forget your camera!! Where is your next weekend trip? Do you have any favorite tips when you are going away?

” I just love the contrasting colors of the playsuit with the colorful streets and house-fronts of Old San Juan. They just go hand in hand. This playsuit is perfect for Petite girls, because well, it is made FOR petites by Topshop! I am obsessed over the bright colors and proportionate patterns and the cut out details of the piece. I am also wearing these fabulous cork heels and let me just point out, I hate white shoes. They remind me of nurses shoes and it is still a huge no for me. However, when I saw these , I had to try them on and I LOVE THEM and they are super comfy too! They perfect for daytime and for a casual night look! Needless to say, they are my new favorites!”

Toronto, Canada: Summer

image18

Last year, I had the opportunity to visit Canada for the very first time. It was one of those impromptu trips that turned out to be a great vacation.  I visited Toronto and immediately fell in love. It is a great city with a great atmosphere and  amazing people.  I am at a point in my life where wherever I go I think if I would like to settle and live there. Toronto got a big, fat, YES!

I had the idea that Canada was this beautiful, COLD country, 365 days of the year. I visited towards the end of August, and let me tell you… It was HOT! I had packed jeans and some light long sleeves and it was just not suitable, so check the temperature before you leave!

During the summer time there are plenty of cool things to do in Toronto. Some of these can even be done all year round! Here are some of my favorite!

1. CN Tower: One of the tallest buildings in the world, the views from up top are like no other! You can see the city of Toronto and Lake Ontario. Do not miss the glass floor that allows you to stand and stare at the people waaaaay down below! Don’t worry, the floor can hold the weight of 14 hippos, so you’ll be fine.

image13

2. Catch a baseball game at the Rogers Centre: Although we are now right in the middle of the World Series (GO GIANTS!) The home of the Toronto Blue Jays is a must visit in Toronto. I had the opportunity to go to a Yankees vs. Blue Jays game and sporting my beloved Yankees cap ( I am a Yankees fan FOR EVA!) , I braved through a sea of blue and got some light hearted abuse along the way. It was a very fun night out and I would totally recommend it!

image14

3. Outdoors Summer Concert: I didn’t realize until the day before, that KiSS 92.5 was presenting their annual Wham Bam concert at the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) and that Avril Lavigne and Robin Thicke were the main acts!  It is a must do in the summer! Also, be sure to check out the summer festivals in the area!

home_magic_time_lg.7bc9bf3e

4. Have a drink: Now this can be done year-round! Two places that we’re perfect for a drink before the baseball game and a fun night out with friends were the Real Sports Bar & Grill next to the Air Canada Centre, home of the Toronto Raptors and the Maple Leafs and Madison Avenue Pub, one of the largest pubs in the world. Real Sports bar is a great place to meet before a game and if you can’t make it inside, then the screens across the bar will put you right in the action. Madison Avenue Pub is set across three Victorian Mansions, and it has good music, great beer and an amazing atmosphere.

5. Eat Poutine: This is an amazing Canadian dish that is perfect after a night out or whenever hunger strikes. It is made of French fries, gravy and cheese curds. One word: Delicioso!

image21

I can’t wait to go back to Canada and experience all it has to offer, and of course…eat some more poutine! What is your favorite part of Toronto?
