Trends: Mixing Prints

Recently I have been more open to new fashion adventures and for me, mixing prints is definitely one of them. I always wondered how it was possible to achieve such perfect ensembles with that much difference in patterns and prints. Like everything, mixing prints has its little tricks and secrets. After many hours researching and finding my favorite ones, I am here to share them with you and make your closet filled with endless fashionable possibilities! The first thing to know about mixing prints is that in order to find harmony between the pieces it is important to link them with a common color palette or undertones. Also, a good idea is to combine different textures. If you are unsure of where to start: black and white is always a safe bet. It is important to make a single piece, your key item. Whatever you decide to pair it up with should be a subtler print, in order to achieve harmony and not let the prints become “too much”. It is also very important to accessorise accordingly by adding a solid color item (shoes, handbag, necklace) that will tie your outfit together. My favorite patterns to style are stripes with animal print or florals. As I learn more and feel more confident, I will be diving into the deep end of mixed prints! The best thing about mixing prints is that it can be done during all seasons, from fall through summer! Here are some of my favorite ways of mixing prints! Enjoy, and remember to be bold and dare to be yourself! Fashion is not about faithfully following a certain trend, it is about seeing a trend that you like, and making it your very own! screen-shot-2014-07-28-at-11-11-07-pm I found these useful styling tips from  MadebyGirl and will be incorporating to my wardrobe!

Trend Report: Leopard Prints for A/W 2014

Leopard prints used to remind me of the Jersey Shore and sassy 5 year olds. I would stay as far away as possible from anything leopard. I remember when it was the it thing back in school, to have EVERYTHING in your room decorated with an animal print and the louder, the better (The horror!). Recently, I have found myself wanting to purchase key pieces in leopard print. I just can’t get enough of it and throughout the seasons, I have learned just how to incorporate it in my wardrobe without it looking tacky or over the top. Fall is quickly approaching (after what it seems like the shortest summer ever! Thanks England!) and I am, once again, craving for some feline spots on my outfits. This trend was very much present in the catwalks last year, and this year, during PFW, the trend was seen walking down the Céline, Saint Laurent and Givenchy runways, among others.  This is one of my favorite patterns and as I am learning to mix prints , I will definitely be on the lookout for new ways to style it! Tip: When mixing prints, think of the leopard print as a neutral! Here are some of my favorite ways to style the Leopard Prints in the closet! Enjoy!

Trend Report: Stripes for A/W 14

Judging by the amount of striped clothing items I own, it is pretty safe to say that it is my favorite print (hence the name of this blog!). Here at The Striped Complex, it will be a print you will see over and over again, styled throughout all seasons!

I love a classic look above all and stripes just shout simplicity and chic to me. During the last year, I have learned to incorporate this pattern into my wardrobe staples and learned how to style and accesorize accordingly. Not only that, but I have even learned how to mix prints using stripes as a focal point. Stripes go well with virtually any patterns, but leopard and florals are my favorite to style with. For autumn and winter, stripes can be a little tricky. We are hidden under bulky sweaters and heavy coats but it is all matter of focusing the attention on those little stripes, one way or the other. These are some inspiration I have gathered from Pinterest and they show exactly how I would style and will be styling stripes during the upcoming autumn and winter seasons. I hope you enjoy!
